About this JSON viewer
What this tool does, how it works, and why your data never leaves your browser.
JSON Viewer reads, formats, searches and checks JSON in your browser. There is no account, no upload and no limit on how many files you open.
The one rule
Your data stays on your machine. The tool is a set of static files. When you paste a document or open a file, the text goes into the memory of your browser tab and nowhere else. No part of it is sent to this site or to any other site.
Two places are the exception, and both need you to act first:
- Load URL. You give an address, and your browser fetches that address. The other site sees the request, as it would for any page you open.
- Share. The tool compresses your document and puts it in the part of the
link after the
#mark. A browser never sends that part to a server. The link holds the data, so anybody who has the link has the data.
Why we built it
The well-known JSON viewers come from a time when a JSON file held a few kilobytes. They build one HTML element for every value in the file, so a document of 20 MB makes the tab stop answering. They also refuse a file that holds a comment, although many configuration files hold comments.
This tool reads the text one time and writes a table of numbers: where each
value starts, where it ends, and which value holds it. It never calls
JSON.parse, and it never builds an object for each value.
Two things follow from that:
- It is fast. A file of 120 MB opens in about 1.3 seconds, and the tree scrolls at the full speed of the screen, because only the rows you can see exist in the page.
- A big number stays exact. JavaScript cannot hold
123456789012345678901234567890without a loss. Because the tool keeps the place of the number in your text, and never turns it into a JavaScript number, the digits come back exactly as you wrote them. Most other viewers change them.
What it does

| Fix | Closes brackets, adds missing commas, and more |
| Tree | A tree you can open, close and search |
| Table | A list of objects as a grid |
| Search | Plain find, a regular expression, or a JSONPath |
| Compare | Every difference between two files |
| Schema | A check against a JSON Schema |
| Convert | CSV, YAML, or a TypeScript interface |
| Share | A link that holds the document |
Who makes it
A small, independent project. If a file breaks the tool, please tell us. A file that fails is the most useful thing you can send, and we read every report. Write to hello@shipfy.in, or use the contact page.
